Its holiday time and its quiet in Brussels, so this issue
is shorter than usual – ACE Info will be back to its full size in
September.
Welcome to the eight issue in 2004 of ACE Info, the
monthly update from the Architects' Council of Europe that will give you, at a
glance, information on current issues, highlighting emerging areas of activity
and informing you of matters of interest in the field of architectural policy.
This issue is also available in French.
On the 14th July last, the European Commission
adopted the proposals for the new Structural Funds regulations for the period
2007-2013. These regulations take urban areas into consideration by
stating that urban renewal, including measures for social inclusion, could be
co-financed. Specifically the regulations state that the European
Regional Development Fund (ERDF) may be used to support “Integrated
strategies to tackle high concentrations of economic, environmental and social
problems affecting urban agglomerations”. Further detailed
information can be found by browsing the web at: http://europa.eu.int/comm/regional_policy/debate/forum_en.htm
A new President has been elected by the National Assembly
of the Chamber of Architects of the Republic of Poland. He is Tomasz
Taczewski, architect.
Our well-known and long-standing German delegate to the
ACE, Mahmood Sairally has been elected a member of l’Academie d’Architecture,
France. The Academy has 100 elected French architects and 50 elected overseas
architects. The date for the conferring of Membership has not yet been
set, but it will take place in Paris at the seat of the Academy – the
historical Hotel des Chaulnes, Place des Voges.
The Union of Architects of Bulgaria has a new president, He
is Ivan Stanishev, architect.
Anne-Marie Sigmund, who is in charge of Europan Affairs at
the Austrian federal committee of the liberal professions, has been formally
confirmed as candidate for the presidency of the European Economic and Social
Committee (EESC). The EESC will hold its ballot for the presidency at its
plenary session in October 2004.
The proposal of the RIBA to hold a seminar on the topic of
Public Private Partnerships (PPP’s) in September 2004 has been postponed.
This is because the RIBA is currently in the process of re-evaluating its
position on PPP’s and its officers believe that the seminar should be held
after these important deliberations are completed.

this workshop will discuss the theme of the EAAE Prize 2003-2005 sponsored by
